Chilkoot Trail (Alaska & Canada)
Chilkoot Trail (Alaska, Canada), Gold Rush route, trekking, trektocht, goudzoekers-trail, historical parks
Pictures taken on the historical Chilkoot Trail in Alaska and Canada. This 5-6 days trek follows the route that gold seekers would follow in the years 1896-1900 on their way to the famous Klondike Goldfields in Yukon (Canada). Starting from in Alaska (USA) where they would disembark form steamers coming from Seattle, the stampeders would set out on a wintery journey over a 1067 m. (3500 ft.) high pas, carrying as much as 900 kg of supplies.
The trail is well kept and thoroughly organised wilderness trek now. It is hard to believe that towns of more than 10.000 people existed here once. Numerous info panels on the trail, though, bring the stampede years to live.
